Application process

The OINP nominates people for permanent residence who have the skills the Ontario economy needs, and the Government of Canada makes the final decision to approve applications for permanent residence.These are the main steps to follow when applying for permanent residence:

  • Meet all the mandatory requirements for the OINP stream.
  • Apply online, through the OINP e-Filing Portal.
  • It takes two to three hours to complete the application.
  • Apply for permanent residence through IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada)
  • The Government of Canada makes the final decision on who becomes a permanent resident.

The OINP selects candidates for permanent residence status, who have the skills and experience required to enhance Ontario’s economy. Also, the IRCC makes the final decision regarding permanent residency status.
